Monteverdi Vespers of 1610
Join us for this rare opportunity to celebrate the 400th anniversary of what has been called ‘one of the most extraordinarily beautiful works for the voice ever written’. Monteverdi’s 1610 Vespers has been hailed as one of the great monumental works; in scale, the most ambitious religious music before Bach. While monumental, it is also thrillingly intimate, filled with sparkling solos and vocal and instrumental acrobatics. Joining Orpheus for this exciting occasion will be two critically acclaimed early music ensembles: The Whole Noyse from Los Angeles, one of the world’s great early music wind ensembles, and Ars Lyrica from Houston. Performed in Dallas’ premiere venue for sacred choral music, the Cathedral Guadalupe.
