Orpheus will open the season by tracing the rich choral tradition in America. The concert will include music by William Billings ("Chester"), who is often regarded as the first American choral composer, and other pillars of our musical community, including Samuel Barber ("To Be Sung on the Water"), Alice Parker ("Come to the Skies"), Eric Whitacre ("Water Night"), and Morten Lauridsen ("I Will Lift Up Mine Eyes"). You also just might hear a little Dolly Parton!
